The Maela Consortium and the University of Venda’s Institute for Rural Development offer a fully funded undergraduate scholarship for young African leaders pursuing studies in law, governance, and leadership at top Chinese universities. This initiative aims to equip participants with skills in sustainable development, Chinese language proficiency, and cross-cultural leadership experience. Eligibility and Requirements
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age: 18–35 years old.
- Citizenship: Citizens of African countries (first cohort prioritizes SADC member states).
- Leadership Experience: Active involvement in rural leadership structures (e.g., Traditional/Royal Councils, Youth Councils, Development Committees).
- Academic Qualification: Possess university entry-level qualifications (e.g., completed secondary education).
Required Documents:
- Academic transcripts/certificates.
- Personal African Leadership Statement (written in English).
- Recommendation Letter from a local Traditional Authority.
- Proof of leadership roles in the community.
Application Procedure
