We are pleased to announce that the 2025 TESIECS Mobility Scholarship Application is now open.


The TESIECS Mobility Scholarship, co-funded by the European Union, supports African students, academic staff, and researchers in the field of climate change and environmental solutions. It facilitates academic mobilities for degree-seeking, credit-seeking, and short-term programs in partnership with several universities across Africa. This scholarship aims to enhance sustainable and innovative solutions to environmental challenges.

Eligibility and Requirements:

Minimum Requirements for Application:

  1. Grades:

    • Master’s degree programs: A minimum of a Second Class Upper (3.5 CGPA or equivalent, or 70% average) in the relevant field of study from a recognized African university.
    • PhD degree programs: A Master’s degree with at least 65% average (or equivalent) from a recognized African university.
  2. Target Groups:

    • Target Group 1: Students currently registered at or who have obtained a degree from participating institutions (University of Johannesburg, University of Western Cape, University of Zimbabwe, University of Botswana, Namibia University of Science & Technology).
    • Target Group 2: Students from any other public African university, eligible to apply to any of the TESIECS institutions.
  3. Citizenship: Only African citizens from participating countries or any other African country are eligible. Applicants should be residing in Africa at the time of application.

  4. Other Requirements:

    • Applicants should not be beneficiaries of the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme 2022-2027.

Application Procedure:

  1. Complete the online mobility scholarship application form (https://tesiecs.uj.ac.za/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/TESIECS-MOBILITY-SCHOLARSHIP-APPLICATION-GUIDELINES-17JUNE-2024.pdf)
  2. Select the preferred university and academic program.
  3. Submit the required application documentation (e.g., academic records, proof of nationality, English proficiency letter, CV).
  4. Confirm the receipt of applications and await institutional acceptance or rejection.
  5. Successful candidates will be notified about the scholarship award.

  • Research proposal (for PhD applicants)
  • English proficiency letter from the current institution
  • At least two letters of recommendation sent directly by referees
