This is an article that contains a guide to calculating your STELLENBOSCH UNIVERSITY APS (Admission Point Score) for the 2025 academic year. We have adopted the selection criteria of various courses for the coming admission year.

HOW TO CALCULATE THE STELLENBOSCH UNIVERSITY ADMISSION POINT SCORE
The formula used in calculating the STELLENBOSCH UNIVERSITY admission point score is a summation of all your six (6) best high school subjects (excluding Life Orientation), the total percentage you get is your admission point. Kindly check below for an illustration and example of the APS.To study at Stellenbosch University you are required to:
- South African school system: Have obtained a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi with admission to Bachelor’s degree studies, which means that you must obtain a mark of at least 50% in each of four school subjects from the list of university admission subjects: Accounting, Agricultural Sciences, Business Studies, Consumer Studies, Dramatic Arts, Economics, Engineering Graphics and Design, Geography, History, Information Technology, Languages (one language of learning and teaching at a higher education institution and two other recognised language subjects), Life Sciences, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Music, Physical Sciences, Religion Studies and Visual Arts
- International school system: Final school results from International Curriculum (Cambridge International, International Baccalaureate, etc.), including School of Tomorrow. Click here for the minimum requirements for international curriculums. (A-levels, AS-levels, IB diploma and GCSE/IGCSE/O-levels)
- Have written the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs). Please note that when you apply for a programme in the faculty of Law and of Medicine and Health Sciences, the NBT’s need to be written before 30 June if you want to be considered for selection.
- Also meet further requirements specific to the programme(s) of your choice as set out in the programme outlines under the various faculties
AgriSciences selection process
- Selection takes place on the basis of academic merit only.
- Meeting the minimum requirements of the program applied for does NOT guarantee selection.
- As soon as provisional acceptance is granted, the applicant will receive a letter in this regard.
- A student can only be provisionally accepted for one program at any given time at SU. If a student is accepted in for example his/her 2nd choice, the provisional admission (for the 2nd choice) will lapse should the student’s 1st choice be successful as well.
- For all programs (except the BAgric (Agri-business Management), BSc (Food Science), BScFor (Wood and Wood Products Sciences) and BScAgric (Plant and Soil Sciences) with Soil Science and Chemistry as major subjects) prospective students who have a:
- o NSC or Grade 11 average of 65% and above;
- o Mathematics mark of 65% and above and
- o Physical Science mark of 55% and above will be immediately considered for provisional admission to the chosen program.
- Prospective students who have a lower average, Mathematics and/or Physical Science mark but who still meet the minimum requirements will be put on a waiting list and will be considered during the June, August and October selection rounds. The NBT results will be used in these selection rounds.
- For the program BAgric (Agri-business Management) prospective students who have a:
- o NSC or Grade 11 average of 65% and above;
- o Mathematics mark of 65% and above and
- o Physical Science mark of 50% and above will be immediately considered for provisional admission to the chosen program.
- Prospective students who have a lower average and/or Mathematics mark but who still meet the minimum requirements will be put on a waiting list and will be considered during the June, August and October selection rounds. The NBT results will be used in these selection rounds.
- For the program BSc (Food Science) prospective students who have a:
- o NSC or Grade 11 average of 70% and above;
- o Mathematics mark of 65% and above and
- o Physical Science mark of 55% and above will immediately be considered for provisional admission to the chosen program.
- Prospective students who have a lower average, Mathematics and/or Physical Sceince mark but who still meet the minimum requirements will be put on a waiting list and will be considered during the June, August and October selection rounds. The NBT results will be used in these selection rounds. Only 1st and 2nd choice applicants will be considered for admission.
- For the program BScFor (Wood and Wood Products Sciences) prospective students who have a:
- o NSC or Grade 11 average of 65% and above;
- o Mathematics mark of 70% and above and
- o Physical Science mark of 60% and above will immediately be considered for provisional admission to the chosen program.
- Prospective students who have a lower average but who still meet the minimum requirements will be put on a waiting list and will be considered during the June, August and October selection rounds. The NBT results will be used in these selection rounds.
- For the BScAgric (Plant and Soil Sciences) with Soil Science and Chemistry as major subjects prospective students who have a:
- o NSC or Grade 11 average of 65% and above,
- o Mathematics mark of 70% and above and
- o Physical Science mark of 55% and above will immediately be considered for provisional admission to the chosen program.
- Prospective students who have a lower average and/or Physical Science mark but who still meet the minimum requirements will be put on a waiting list and will be considered during the June, August and October selection rounds. The NBT results will be used in these selection rounds.
