The application for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) Bursary for the academic year 2024 is now open by the scheme itself for all South Africans in South Africa.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) hereby invites all outstanding students to apply for the 2023 Bursary. It is meant for students that intend to, or are currently studying towards degree and diploma programmes that are aligned to the following listed below:
- All study programmes
Young people who were unable to apply for NSFAS funding during the 2021 application cycle but have been admitted to public institutions of higher learning through the Department of Higher Education’s Central Application Clearing House (CACH) will be considered for funding for the 2025 academic year.
NSFAS BURSARY APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY
Who can Apply?
- You are a South African citizen;
- Your combined annual household income does not exceed R350 000 per annum;
- You are a SASSA grant recipient;
- You are registering for the first time for an undergraduate qualification at a public university or you are registered at a TVET college for one of the National Certificate Vocational or report 191 programme;
- You are applying to study at a public university or TVET college for a qualification;
- You are an already registered university student with an annual household income of less than R122 000 per year;
- You have passed Grade 9 & 10 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a TVET college;
- You have passed Grade 12 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a university.
What is Required?
Ensure that you have your own
- Valid email address and cellphone number (Note that this new number must be UNIQUE and accessible by you at all times).
- Valid South African ID
You will need the following supporting documents:
All applicants
- Certified copy of your ID, not older than 3 months
- A signed and completed consent form
If you are a SASSA recipient, please provide:
- Certified copy of your ID, not older than 3 months
- A signed and completed consent form
If you are dependent on your parents/guardian/spouse, please provide:
- Certified ID copies of parent/s, guardian, spouse not older than 3 months
- Proof of income of parent, guardian or spouse (payslip or appointment letter)
If you are self-sufficient and employed please provide:
- Proof of income (payslip or appointment letter)
- 3yrs IRP5
If you have a disability, please provide:
- Completed and signed Disability Annexure A (if your information is not pre-populated on the portal)
If you are an orphan please provide:
- Orphan Declaration and Consent Form (excluding consent form)
Other documents required, if applicable:
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce decree

HOW TO APPLY FOR NSFAS BURSARY FUND
Follow these simple steps and submit your applications online:
- Step 1: Go to the NSFAS website or the NSFAS student portal (myNSFAS)
- Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account
- Step 3: Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen by providing the required information.
- Step 4: Upload required supporting documents where applicable.
- Step 5: Click on ‘Submit’
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS
- Completed applications need to be submitted on or before the 2023 application deadline HERE. Late applications will not be considered.
